v The International English Language Testing Systen (IELTS) is an international test of English proficiency, and it’s becoming more and more recognized in the world. In Australia, it is accepted as an entry requirement for all colleges and universities, and for the application for Australian permanent visas.

The IELTS test is made up by 4 sections (speaking, reading, listening and writing) and it’s scored from band 1 (non-user) to band 9 (expert user). Each sections has its own score, and then all of them are combined to provide an overall score. The majority of Australian colleges and university requires an overall score between 5.0 and 7.5 to be accepted.
There are two versions of IELTS: the General module and the Academic module.

  • General moduleis usually required by the Immigration in order for the immigrants to apply for permanent residency.
  • Academic moduleis required by Universities or other education providers so that students could be accepted to study in their institutions. This module is also useful for those who have certain professions that need to be recognized by an Australian institution for immigration purposes as well.

Many schools offer an IELTS preparation course, to help you be successful with the exam and get to know some tricks and hints that will be really useful. The course usually starts every Monday and it can last 8/12 weeks.
